Batay Ouvriye #8 – The Writing of our Pencil Can’t be Erased!

The following statement was put out by Batay Ouvriye (Worker’s Fight), the Autonomous Haitian Worker’s Movement. It has been translated and given to Worker’s Struggle to share. We need to make clear this was a position put out by an intermediate level organization, similar to Worker’s Struggle. The intermediate level has higher levels of political unity and commitment than the mass level and the unity is reflected here. However, all all forms and types of organizations are present in this Haitian Worker’s Movement. We are honored to post this reply to the US president’s remark about “shithole countries”. Pardon the delay, let’s build our organizations! #Solidarity!

Batay Ouvriye #8

The Haitian People are upset and mobilized, the writing of our pencil can’t be erased!

In a meeting on immigration,  the leader of the imperialist government, Donald Trump, said Haiti, other African countries and other Latin American countries, are « shitholes » Many people all over the world were fast to call him racist. In Batay Ouvriye, we agree with this general condemnation. We agree Trump is a racist we must fight and denounce. However,  we must put forward  positions in the interests of the working class. We must differentiate ourselves in the struggle against the statement of Trump based on the interests of the working class in Haiti, and other countries. The writing of our pencil can’t be erased! We say clearly: It’s the landowners and Haitian capitalists, the imperialists of all stripes that  put us where we are and dragged the country into a such a hole that gives way to Trump to say that. The following statement was put out by Batay Ouvriye, the Autonomous HAitian Worker’s Movement. It has been translated and given to Worker’s Struggle to share. We are honored to post this reply to the US presiden’t remark about “shithole countries”. PArdon the delay, let’s build our organizations! #Solidarity!

Racism is an extreme stage in the domination of a class on other classes. It is an ideological justification that serves the exploitatioin and the political domination. As such, we saw the racism of the white french colonists imposed against the black slaves in Saint Domingue based on the « Black Code » with all the practices this implies. In reality, racism is a social, political and ideological practice based on social relations soaked in heated antagonism, a bitter break up that is no  laughing matter. Racism is a social, political and ideological practice that quite VIOLENT. This is the trait of an extreme stage of the domination of a class on others. This the kind of antagonism that characterized relations of the colonists with the slaves. This is the antagonism we also see in the relations of the capitalists today with the working class and other dominated classes on earth. IT’S THIS ANTAGONISTIC SOCIAL RELATION THAT IS THE SOURCE AND FOUNDATION OF RACISM. Fighting against racism, without fighting against the antagonistic social relations, would be a serious mistake, a mistake, which would rapidly turn into a fake solution. In this sense, Trump is simply a cheerleader promoting racism in the interests of the capitalist power block. So, his racist propaganda is benefiting the whole capitalist system. That’s why we say : just denouncing Trump is a danger. Racism is a symptom emerging out of all mode of production based on antagonistic social relations ; it’s an extreme stage in the antagonistic social relations. If we don’t deal with the source of the symptom, we’re making a big mistake.

In capitalism, there are 2 classes facing each other : the industrial capitalists and the working class. Those two classes are like milk and lemon under extreme heat. Even though, racism spreads in many social formations today, its roots, its source is the antagonistic social relations between the working class and the capitalists. In the case of Haiti, we must understand how it works to get to the bottom of it now and in the future.

The explitive that says the Country is a « shithole » is a reflection of the bankrupcy of capitalist domination of the country. It’s the failure of the Haitian capitalist and the imperialists that caused the break down of the country. It is the anti national and anti popular policies of the ruling classes, the bourgeoisie in particular and their reactionary state that cause a racist as Trump to say that the country is a « shithole.» There are no services for the population while the capitalists are becoming richer everyday. Even Trump is making millions on the backs of Haitians working in his hotels in the United States. In the same way, the Haitian capitalists are making millions on the backs of workers in textile factories and other manufactures. They are all dominating and exploiting our LABOR POWER. Their dogs have a better life than us!

Facing this situation, only a general uprising will take us out this. Only policies that put forward the interests of the popular masses can take us out of the bad situation we’re in under the domination and exploitation of the ruling classes, the reactionaries and force them to back off in their anti national policies in our immediate struggles while we’re thinking and building our independent longterm solution.

NO DOUBT : THE CURE FOR RACISM IS TO UPROOT ITS SOURCE. TODAY, CAPITALISM IS BANKRUPT ; IT’S DECAYING AND HAS REACHED A DEADEND. THE SOLUTION IS THE ORGANIZATION AND STRUGGLE OF THE POPULAR MASSES WITH THE TOILING MASSES AS THE BACKBONE UNDER THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP OF THE WORKING CLASS !

FOR ALL PEOPLES AROUND THE WORLD, IF THEY ARE CALLING US SHITHOLES, IT’S THE CAPITALIST CLASS THAT IS THE CAUSE ! LET’S COORDINATE OUR STRUGGLES TO OVERTHROW AND IN THIS WAY UPROOT CAPITALISM WITH ALL ITS RACISM.
